The craft of basketry & mat-making (collectively known as anyaman) has long been practised in Malaysia. There are a variety of forest-based resources including bamboo, rattan, screwpine (Pandanus sp.) and ribu-ribu (Lygodium sp.) which are used extensively in local basketry.
Items handcrafted from such raw material include utilitarian items, decorative items and are even made as gifts. The unique blend of art & creativity of Malaysian craftspeople are clearly demonstrated through our beautiful baskets, mats, furniture, screens, multi-purpose containers, gifts & souviners. It can also be seen on the walls of our traditional homes.
