Songket represent the height of refinement in traditional crafts., which remains the pride of our people and an integral part of our traditional culture since time immemorial. Originating from the word 'sungkit' which is a 'levering technique', it is a method o combining warp threads with supplementary weft threads consisting of gold, silver or other coloured threads according to the required patterns.
The elegance of songket is considered a refined means to showcase the artistry of our people's heritage. Today, we are able to see numerous innovative uses and wearing techniques created for songket cloth. Local woven songket is now the fabric of choice for fashion designers and interior decorators locally and from around the world.
